While the name of this website is called Alternative Energy is could just as well be called Green Energy, Renewable Energy or several other names that describe energy or fuel not produced by fossil products such as coal or oil. You will notice that I have included natural gas here which is actually a fossil product. The reason I've done this is because I believe that natural gas is the best was to transition from fossil fuel to alternative fuel. Eventually most of our energy will come from alternative types of fuel, but until then we will still be dependent on fossil fuel.

In the United States approximately 95% of passenger cars still run on gasoline. In the rest of the world a large percentage of them do run on diesel which is still a fossil fuel. Europe has approximately 50% diesel cars which means they use less fuel but still fossil.

Natural gas is very abundant in the U. S. and while there will be a lot transitional problems it will still be easier than trying to convert all the cars to some alternative in the near future.

The main purpose of this site it to explore all the different types of alternative types of energy found around the world. Some of these will be the ones that are being used today such as solar, wind, geothermal, etc. We'll be looking at these but will be studying different ways to use them along with a lot others that are coming out every day.
